image New York: Purified components of the humble ginger have properties that can help asthma patients breathe more easily, a new study has found. Asthma is characterised by bronchoconstriction, a tightening of the bronchial tubes that carry air into and out of the lungs.

Bronchodilating medications called beta-agonists are among the most common types of asthma medications and work by relaxing the airway smooth muscle (ASM) tissues.

image London: Exercise - even in small doses - can alter your DNA, slashing the risk of obesity and diabetes, according to a new study.

Swedish researchers have described for the first time what happens on an epigenetic level in fat cells when we undertake physical activity.

"Our study shows the positive effects of exercise, because the epigenetic pattern of genes that affect fat storage in the body changes," said Charlotte Ling, Associate Professor at Lund University Diabetes Centre.

image New York: Spending too much time with mobile phones can harm your health, a new research has revealed.

The study conducted by Kent State University found that students, who spent lot of time on their phone- up to 14 hours each day- were less fit than those spending about 1 and a half hour a day, New York Daily News reported.

The report also said that people, who spent more time on their mobile devices, were more likely to engage in other sedentary forms of entertainment, like playing video games or watching films.

image Washington: Researchers including an Indian origin have shed some light on why aspirin benefits some people and not others.

Researchers at Duke Medicine developed a blood-based test of gene activity that has been shown to accurately identify who will respond to the therapy.

The study showed that the new gene expression profile not only measures the effectiveness of aspirin, but also serves as a strong predictor of patients who are at risk for heart attack.

The Duke researchers enlisted three groups of participants - two of healthy volunteers and one comprised of patients with heart disease seen in outpatient cardiology practices.

For the first time, the 2013 guidelines would combine recommendations across the continuum of HIV care and prevention programs, including expanding treatment eligibility for HIV-positive pregnant women, mothers, and children.
