image Melbourne: Malarial parasites resistant to existing drugs may have a difficult time soon, as researchers have now developed a compound that blocks the action of a key 'gatekeeper' enzyme essential for malaria parasite survival.

The compound, called WEHI-916, is the first step toward a new class of anti-malarial drugs that could cure and prevent malaria infections caused by all species of the parasite, including those resistant to existing drugs.

Researchers developed WEHI-916 to block the critical malaria enzyme Plasmepsin V.

"In this study, we developed a novel compound to target Plasmepsin V and showed for the first time that the en

Huffingtonpost.com shares a list of healthy and satisfying food items:

* Apples: Eat an apple approximately a half hour before a meal -- the fiber and water from the fruit will fill you up, so you'll eat less, says Debra Wein, RD, president of Wellness Workdays, a provider of worksite wellness programs.

* Avocados: Eating half of an avocado with your lunch may help you feel full for the rest of the afternoon, according to a study published in Nutrition Journal.

image Our eyes dubbed as the light of our body, need special care before they are being damaged. But many of us take this precious gift for granted, though we depend on them more than any other sense.

Remember, when our eyes are healthy, our whole body is full of light. But, when our eyes are unhealthy, our body gets filled with darkness.

Here are five foods that will keep your eyes healthy:

Carrots: Carrots are rich in beta carotene (Vitamin A), which is a powerful antioxidant that can help reduce the risk of macular degeneration and cataracts.

Spinach: Spinach is packaged with Vitamin C, beta carotene and large amounts of lutein and zea

He returned from the trip having had an epiphany and possessed a renewed sense of excitement as we prepared to launch into a new vertical. Because Jeremy typically works by himself in a remote office, Graves’ influence proved to be a huge asset.

It all proves that the company that a businessperson keeps can have a profound effect on him or her and subsequently the success of a business.

Sports and energy drink consumption should be addressed as part of a clustering of unhealthy behaviours among some adolescents, the researchers noted.

“Among boys, weekly sports drink consumption was significantly associated with higher TV viewing,” said Nicole Larson of University of Minnesota in the US.

Boys who regularly consumed sports drinks spent about one additional hour per week watching television compared with boys w

image Toronto,Canada: Babies, who are most susceptible to cavities in the early years of their lives, are least likely to get dental care even though they need it the most, a study has found.

Prolonged bottle use, especially at night, and sweetened drinks are suspected risk factors for cavities because the carbohydrates in the beverages promote the growth of the bacteria that causes cavities, said Jonathon Maguire, a paediatrician at St Michael's Hospital in Canada.

Of the 2,505 children around four years of age who were surveyed from 2011-13 for the study, 39 percent had never been to a dentist, the findings showed.

Many employers might be surprised to hear about a business that would provide unlimited paid-time off to full-time employees. However, this policy can be successful if a company's culture is founded on trust and mutual respect.   The first step toward creating a culture that can withstand a trust-based policy is for leaders to look outside of the workplace. Leaders must recognize that employees are not only workers, but also parents, spouses, sons and daughters who may have an obligation or emergency to tend to on occasion. When employees are given flexibility, in most cases, it is pr

The New York-based gift registry service, through its website, offers couples or expectant parents a place where friends and family can send money as gifts to help grow their nest egg or repay student loans.

With the average wedding coming in at close to $30,000, it’s no surprise that couples are hoping to recoup a little bit of what they spend on the wedding, get help funding the wedding or put the money towards a down payment on a home. Michael Levenson, 27,  who founded Present Value in Febr

Seemingly this formula worked well for Clint Eastwood in his career and if you want to be better respected at your job, it can work for you too.

Take a moment to conjure up what work would be like if your colleagues, bosses, subordinates and clients treated you more respectfully.  Do you envision more money?  Do you envision more fulfilling relationships with these individuals?

image Image credit: Shutterstock Do you find yourself saying ‘yes’ when you want to say ‘no’? Learning how to say ‘no’ may be one of the most important skills an entrepreneur will need this year.

Here is why it is important. As an entrepreneur, you already have too much on your plate. Piling on extraneous stuff can only prove unproductive. More than that, saying ‘yes’ and being unable to deliver on it will end up in a loss of credibility, friends, and focus – not to speak of the added stress.

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair understood this. “The art of leadership is saying no, not saying yes. It is

However positive your intentions, however driven and wonderful your team, every day is not a good day. And because you’re the founder, overseeing the life of your business, those bad days can be terrifying.

Jess Lee, CEO and co-founder of style and social commerce platform, Polyvore, explains this familiar mental trap, where founders often fall into “moments of extreme unhappiness” and stress -- even when your company is doing well.

Why does this clash happen? Lee explains: “Humans are terri

image Every human being experiences stress, which is a normal part of life. But, long-term exposure to stress can lead to serious health problems.

Stress can be termed as the body's reaction to any change that requires adjustment and response. In other words, stress is a reaction to a stimulus that disturbs our mental or physical equilibrium.

Below are three reasons why stress is bad for your health:

Sleep disorder: Stress can give you sleepless nights. Your body cannot relax and go to rest when you think of something stressful while lying on the bed. Hence, anxiety is one of the main causes of insomnia and sleep problems.

image Washington, United States of America: A new study has revealed that children who live in regions of the world where malaria is common can mount an immune response to infection with malaria parasites.

According to the study, that the immune response may enable kids to avoid repeated bouts of high fever and illness and partially control the growth of malaria parasites in their bloodstream.

The researchers have claimed that the findings may help in developing future interventions that prevent or mitigate the disease caused by the malaria parasite.

It was found that immune cells collected before the malaria season responded by producing large amounts

The researchers from Scripps Research Institute Scientists working with the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative said that an effective vaccine would work by eliciting a strong and long-lasting immune response against vulnerable conserved sites on the virus-sites that don't vary much from strain to strain, and that, when grabbed by an antibody, leave the virus unable to infect cells.

“Yoga is often directed at mindful awareness, increasing relaxation and relieving anxiety and stress,” said Alison Huang, an assistant professor from University of California Francisco.

For these reasons, yoga has been directed at a variety of other conditions - metabolic syndrome or pain syndromes - but there is also a reason to think that it could help for incontinence as well, Huang added.

Why? Because they have a reduced exposure to beneficial microbes that thrive in rural environments.

Genomes are changing, not just from generation to generation, but even and in fact within our individual cells.

The researchers found an association between the level of modification of RNA and our basal metabolic rate - the rate at which we are able to convert food into energy to power our bodies.

If DNA is the printing press that determines the functions of a living organism, RNA is the print that it leaves behind.

The study found no association between non-heme iron, which is found in plants and other non-meat sources, and coronary heart disease.

Heme iron consumption increased the risk for coronary heart disease by 57 percent, the study warned.
