New Delhi, Jan 16 : The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) Thursday said it has issued 56 crore Aadhaar numbers and is in the process of completing its mandate of covering 60 crore people by the end of the current fiscal.

"With generation of about 13-14 lakh Aadhaar numbers every day, the flagship programme appears all set to complete its mandate of covering 60 crore population in the next few weeks," UIDAI said in a statement.

According to UIDAI, currently more than three crore Aadhaar numbers are being generated per month and that with an increased capacity 15-16 lakh enrolment packets are being processed every day.

Washington, Jan 2 : Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has reportedly topped the giving list for US philanthropists after donating a Silicon Valley foundation with nearly one billion dollars.

Zuckerberg, along with wife, Priscilla Chan, contributed the sum to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation including 18 million in Facebook shares that totaled to about 992 million dollars.

Washington:  President Barack Obama's disapproval rating has hit a record high, due mainly to the disastrous debut of his health care law, an NBC  News-Wall Street Journal poll released on Wednesday said.

A total of 54 percent of those surveyed disapprove of how he is doing his job, which is the highest mark in his presidency. That is up from 51 percent in late October, said the survey.

New Delhi: Reacting on the rumours that Congress may name Nandan Nilekani as its candidate for Prime Minister, Janata Dal (United) MP Shivanand Tiwari on Wednesday said the move could be suicidal for the party.

Baghdad: At least 17 people died and 49 others were wounded Monday in separate attacks in Iraq, while the Iraqi army said it thwarted an attack launched by an armed group from neighbouring Syria.
    The deadliest strike was a car-bomb blast 10 km south of Baquba, the capital of the northeastern province of Diyala.

That attack left 13 dead and 20 wounded, medical personnel said.

In another incident, at least two police officers died and nine others were wounded when a car bomb exploded hear a police station in Al Tarmiya, 40 km north of Baghdad, the interior ministry reported.
