Indian-origin Michael Chopra fined 10,000 pounds by Blackpool over 'expletive-laden' tweets

London, Jan 8 - Indian-origin English footballer Michael Chopra has reportedly been slammed with a 10,000-pound fine by his Football League Championship side Blackpool and warned about his future conduct following some comments that he made on the social media.

Chopra had used expletives in a post on Twitter after only six players turned up for training.

According to the BBC, confirming the punishment, a club statement said that Chopra was one of a number of players asked to report to training as normal for extra work with the fitness coach, adding that both the manager and chairman are disappointed with his tweet.

However, the statement added that the player, who has the right to appeal, has since apologised for the tweet and removed the contents from his account.

The former Newcastle, Sunderland and Cardiff forward, who is one of a number of footballers to be reprimanded for comments made on Twitter, revealed in November 2011 that he had lost as much as two million pounds through betting and last year testified in the trial of three men who were convicted in a 750,000-pound cocaine trial, the report added.
