Arvind Kejriwal's AAP govt faces vote of confidence in Delhi Assembly today

Delhi: Within a week of taking oath as the seventh Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal will prove the majority of his government on the floor of the Assembly on Thursday.

Kejriwal-led government has to prove its majority after directives by the President to Lt Governor Najeeb Jung to prove majority within seven days of taking oath.

While Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has 28 MLAs, he will need the support of eight legislators of Congress to prove his majority.

Meanwhile, Congress reportedly declared that it will continue to lend outside support to the AAP government.

Kejriwal and 70 MLAs took oath in the first session of the new legislative Assembly on Wednesday.

After the vote of confidence in the House today, election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be held on Friday.

On January 6, Lt Governor will address the House which will be discussed the next day.

Soon after taking oath as the Chief Minister of the state on Saturday, Kejriwal lost no time in transferring nine senior bureaucrats from their departments, including CEO of Delhi Jal Board (DJB) Debashree Mukherjee to Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).

He then went on to provide free supply of 700 litres of water everyday for Delhi households and reduced electricity tariffs by 50 per cent.
