The drastic change in the weather can not only affect your health overall but your eyes as well. Here's how you can take care of them

The most common problem that people face during this time of the year is dry eyes. This condition is caused when the tears produced by your eyes are insufficient in moisture, lubrication and other features that help keep the eyes remain protected.

Those who have dry eyes more often than not feel the discomfort in a variety of forms including inflammation, irritation and the feeling of something in the eye.

How to prevent dry eyes
Tears are known to be a major protective agent for your eyes. They not only help wash away the dust from your eyes but also soothe your eyes, provide oxygen and nutrients to your cornea and also defend against eye infections by removing microorganisms that can colonise your eyes.

Cause of dry eyes
It can happen due to a number of reasons. These include those relating to less tears and less moisture in your eyes. Another common cause is ageing. This is because as you age, you produce less productive tears which in turn means less moisture in your eyes. These tears also might evaporate swiftly. Apart from this, environmental factors can also play a factor in drying up your eyes. This includes dusty air, dry or windy weather or fumes like cigarette etc. It is also said that a deficiency in vitamin A, medications and some diseases also leads to dry eyes. Inadequate sleep, insomnia can also dry up your eyes. Thus you need to rest well and also visit your ophthalmologist at the earliest.
