image New Delhi: The Union Cabinet is likely to discuss gas and coal pricing on Thursday. According to the sources, the Cabinet may also take up the CBI autonomy issue. The Group of Ministers (GoM), which was constituted to suggest measure for the independence and functional autonomy of CBI, have recommended constitution of a panel of retired judges which would monitor the investigations undertaken by the agency to ensure that these probe remain free from any influence.

image The Congress, which governs Delhi, has slammed Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party for putting up posters in the city that say rapes will continue in the capital if the Congress is voted to power in the assembly elections due at the end of the year.

image NAANTALI (Finland): Russian President Vladimir Putin says that National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden is in the transit zone of a Moscow airport and will not be extradited to the United States.

Putin said that Snowden hasn't crossed the Russian border and is free to go anywhere.

Speaking on a visit to Finland Tuesday, he added that Russian security agencies "didn't work and aren't working" with Snowden. He gave no more details.

Commenting on a US request to extradite him, Putin said that Russia doesn't have an extradition agreement with the US and thus wouldn't meet the US request.

image Eight people were reportedly killed as a chopper of Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed during a rescue and relief operation in flood-hit Uttarakhand on Tuesday.

image The finance ministers of the European Union nations have not been able to arrive on a an agreement for having common rules on rescuing troubled banks.   The ministers had gathered in Luxembourg but failed to agree on terms of an agreement even after 20 hours of talks on Saturday. image Leading energy giant, Essar Energy has announced better than expected for the financial year 2012-2013 mainly due to increased capacity at its oil refineries in India.   The company said that its pre-tax losses fell to $163 million during the financial year till March, 2013 compared to $1.14 billion during the 15 months to March 2012. image Mumbai, June 24 : In a major setback to Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, a Mumbai court Monday rejected his review plea challenging a magistrate's order for a re-trial in the 2002 hit-and-run case under the stringent charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.   The actor has been given one month's time to appear before the court and face the trial in the case.   If convicted, he could face a 10-year jail sentence.   The actor's SUV ran over pavement dwellers in suburban Bandra in the early hours of Sep 28, 2002, killing one and injuring four others. At least 10,000 survivors in different parts of the state are still waiting to be rescued.

image DEHRADUN: Evacuation of stranded people from flood-hit areas of Uttarakhand picked up pace on Saturday with security forces rescuing 17 foreign tourists from Dharasu and sighting 1000 pilgrims stuck between Kedarnath and Gaurikund even as bad weather hampered chopper operations at some places.

Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde, meanwhile, arrived here to review ongoing rescue efforts in consultation with chief minister Vijay Bahuguna.

An eight-member team of experts is also being sent to Kedarnath shrine on Saturday to take a count of bodies lying in the temple area, disaster management authorities here said.
