About Goa University

Goa University was established under the Goa University Act of 1984 and commenced operations on 1st June 1985. The University is moulded around the nucleus of Centre for Post Graduate Instruction and Research of the University of Bombay in Goa. It is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). It has 23 PG Departments and 2 Centres of studies offering academic programmes leading to masters and Ph.D. degrees in various disciplines. The University also offers PG Diploma programmes in selected disciplines. The master’s programme in Biotechnology is supported by DBT since inception of the course. As many as 46 professional and non-professional colleges/institutions, for undergraduate teaching are affiliated to the University. In addition, 8 research institutions are recognised by the University for research in various disciplines. It is spread over nearly 173 hectares of land.
