TNSET 2014 – Tamil Nadu State Eligibility Test acronym as TNSET is conducted by Bharathiar University in 27 subjects for recruitment of Indian Nationals as Assistant Lecturers in Universities, Institutes of Higher Education and Colleges in Tamil Nadu & Union Territory of Puducherry.

TNSET Exam Eligibility 

Educational Qualification

Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without grace or rounding off) in Master's Degree or equivalent examination is eligible for this test.

The Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribes (ST) / Physically Challenged (PC) / Visually Challenged (VC) category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without grace or rounding off) in Master's Degree Examination are eligible for this Examination.

Candidates who have appeared (or) will be appearing at the qualifying Master's Degree Examination and whose results are still awaited (or) candidates whose examinations have been delayed may also apply for this test. However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible for award of Lectureship eligibility only  after they have passed their Master's Degree examination (or) equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% in case of SC/ST/PC/VC category candidates). Such candidates must obtain their P.G. degree Mark sheet within two years from the date of SET result with required percentage of marks, failing which they will be treated as disqualified.

The PhD degree holders whose Master's level examination had been completed by 19th September 1991 (irrespective of date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for relaxation of 5% of marks from 55% to 50% to appear in SET Examination.

Important: Candidates have to appear for SET in the subject of their Post Graduation only.

Age Limits

There is no Upper age limit to appear in TNSET Exam.

 

TNSET Exam Syllabus

Paper 1 and Paper 2 consists of questions from

  • Reasoning ability
  • Comprehension 
  • Divergent thinking and
  • General awareness

Paper 3 consists of questions from

  • The selected subject by the candidates. 

Note:

Question paper for Paper I is common for all the subjects in which SET is conducted and it will be bilingual (English and Tamil).

Paper II and Paper III of certain subjects will also be bi-lingual. The detailed syllabus for Paper I, Paper II and Paper III can be download from the university website: www.b-u.ac.in (or) ugc website : www.ugc.ac.in.

TNSET Exam Pattern

TNSET will consists of three papers(as given below) to be held on the same day. It will consists of multiple choice objective type questions to be answered on a separate OMR sheet for marking. The candidates,  who do not appear in Paper I, will not be permitted to appear in Paper II & Paper III.

Minimum Qualifying Marks in TNSET will be as follows:

Important

  • Only such candidates who obtain the minimum required marks in each Paper, separately, as mentioned above, will be considered for final preparation of result.  However, the final qualifying criteria for Eligibility for Lectureship shall be decided by SET Moderation Committee before the declaration of result.
  • For Visually challenged candidates, thirty minutes extra time shall be provided separately for Paper I and Paper II. For Paper III, forty five minutes extra time shall be provided. They will also be provided with a scribe who should be a graduate in a subject other than that of the candidates. 
  • Those Physically challenged candidates who are not in position to write in their own handwriting can also avail these services by making prior request in writing to the Chief Superintendent of the test centre.  Extra time and facility of scribe would not be provided to other Physically Challenged candidates.

 

How to Apply for TNSET Exam?

Aspiring candidates are required to download/print the Bank Challan Proforma from the Bharathiar University website www.bu.ac.in and then deposit the requisite Examination fee in any branch of the following banks along with the bank charges (commission) of Rs.25. The Candidates are required to set up page settings in the browser before taking the print out. The Banks are:

  • Bank of India
  • Indian Bank
  • Indian Overseas Bank

Before applying Online, the candidates must possess the following:

  • Scanned passport (pp) size photograph in JPEG format Make sure it should be 206 x 240 Pixel dimension (w x h) and less than 200kb
  • Scanned copy of  Bank Challan  (fee  remittance receipt) in JPEG format; Make sure it should be less than 300kb.

Candidate seeking admission to the Test must apply online (i.e. through a link available on the Bharathiar University  website: www.b-u.ac.in/set2014). on or before the last date of submission of online application form. 

After successful submission, the candidate should take printout of online Application Form (two copies), Attendance Slip (one copy) and Admission Card (one copy) on separate A-4 size papers.

SC/ST/PC/VC candidates and candidates belonging to BC/MBC/SC/SCT must enclose the attested copy of certificate for the same.

Candidates seeking age relaxation must enclose the certificate of educational qualification/research experience entitling the candidates for age relaxation. 

The Application (consisting of one copy of printout of online application form, one copy of Attendance Slip,  one copy of Admission Card and the fee challan) along with required documents must reach

Application with required documents received after the last date will be rejected.

Before applying Online, candidates are advised to go through detailed notification available on Bharathiar University website (i.e. www.b-u.ac.in and www.b-u.ac.in/ set2014).  Please note that fee submitted through any other mode like Money Order, Demand Draft, IPO etc. will be summarily rejected.

The envelope containing the Application Form should be superscribed "STATE ELIGIBILITY TEST ___".

The candidates must affix their recent identical passport size photographs, in the places indicated, on the printout of Online Application Form and must sign across the photograph after it is affixed so that a part of the signature spreads over the

Application Form beyond the photograph. Besides, it should be duly attested by the Head of the University  Department/Principal of the College/Class-I Gazetted Officer.

In order to avoid last minute rush, the candidates are advised to apply early enough. The University will not be responsible for network problems or any other problem of this nature in the submission of online application during closing days.

Enclosures to be send with the Application

The candidates should send the following documents with the printout on A-4 size papers of their online Application Form (one copy), Attendance Slip (one copy) and Admission Card (one copy):

  • Copy of the bank challan (University copy).
  • Attested copies of SC/ST/Visually challenged/Physically challenged/OBC certificates, in case applicable.
  • Certificate of educational qualification/research experience, in case applicable entitling the candidate for age relaxation, duly attested by Gazetted Officer.

TNSET Exam Fee

  1. For General Candidate, the Examination Fee is Rs.1000
  2. For Other backward classes (OBC) the Fee is Rs.750 and
  3. For SC/ST/Physically Challenged / Visually Challenged the Exam Fee is Rs.250.

Examination fee has to be paid through Bank Challan by downloading from www.b-u.ac.in/set2013. Fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.
