Mexican Gulf state of Veracruz 33 people were killed

Mexico City, April 14 : At least 33 people were killed early on Sunday when a tour bus collided with a tractor-trailer and burst into flames on the Cosamalopan-Acayucan highway in the southern part of the Mexican Gulf state of Veracruz, officials said.

The accident occurred around 2:30 a.m. near the city of Isla when a bus heading from Villahermosa, the capital of Tabasco state, to Mexico City hit a truck that had stopped on the highway and did not have its hazard lights on.

Emergency services workers have recovered 33 charred bodies and identified four people injured in the crash.

The injured were transported to the Hospital Metropolitano in Acayucan, officials said.

Veracruz Governor Javier Duarte travelled to the hospital to visit the injured and express his condolences to the relatives of the dead. (IANS/EFE)
