McDonald's has said in a statement that it would drop halal items from two of its restaurants in Detroit suburb Dearborn.

The company said in a statement that it is dropping the halal items from the menu so that it can focus more on its main national offerings in the country. The company recently had to pay $700,000 for settling a lawsuit filed by a Muslim man accusing the company of not following Muslim law to meet halal designation for its products.

Dearborn resident Ahmed had filed suit against McDonald's claiming that the company's halal items do not meet the requirements under the Muslim law. The move may not please several Muslim customers in the city, who were used to having halal food items at the restaurants.

The fast food giant said that two of its restaurants will no longer offer halal Chicken McNuggets and McChicken sandwiches. The company said in a statement that it is dropping the items in order "to focus on our national core menu," but did not mention the lawsuit.
