Airbus receives $23.5 billion potential orders at Paris Air ShowPlane maker, Airbus has received $23.5 billion worth of potential orders at the beginning of the Paris Air Show as Boeing and Airbus compete for orders.

The event, which is being organised at the Le Bourget air field, is celebrating the 50th anniversary, is expected to include a series of orders from the two dominant manufacturers indicating that the commercial flight industry is recovering. Meanwhile, Boeing has received initial firm and provisional orders totalling $12.2 billion at the event.

Experts have said that this year the Air Show would see tough competition for the wide-body jets. The event is likely to see traditional rivals; Airbus and Boeing compete against each other for orders as both focus on deployment of next-generation long-range jets. The much-anticipated Airbus A350 flew for the first time on Friday increasing competition between the European plane maker and Boeing.

The CEO of Airbus parent EADS, Tom Enders has indicated that he is expecting new orders for the large size jets. Airbus delivered 588 planes while Boeing moved ahead with 601 deliveries during the year. The Paris show is organised alternatively every second year in coordination with a similar event at Farnborough, UK.
