Credit: Reuters/Barry Huang/Files   San Jose, California: A U.S. jury on Friday ordered Samsung Electronics Co Ltd to pay $119.6 million to Apple Inc, far less than Apple had sought and marking a big loss for the iPhone maker in the latest round of their globe-spanning mobile patent litigation.

During the month-long trial in a San Jose, California, federal court, Apple accused Samsung of violating patents on smartphone features including universal search, while Samsung denied wrongdoing. On Friday, the jury found the

It goes farther than that, though. Google – through a myriad of data points that come from search, emails, Google Docs, etc. – maintains a detailed file on our habits, preferences, and major life events. (Don't believe me? Check out how hard it was for Janet Vertesi, an assistant professor at Princeton, to conceal her pregnancy from the internet).

Google is taking a step back from all this data collection, however.

Not quite yet. Still, it became obvious today that the rising anonymous social media movement is too big for even Mark Zuckerberg to ignore anymore.

Today, in his keynote at the F8 Developer Conference in San Francisco, the Facebook founder and CEO pulled a total 360 -- he fully embraced anonymity on the web, something he’s publicly dismissed before as lacking integrity.

Yes, the leader of the world’s most popular and completely namedrop-driven social network announced that Facebook will soon let users anonymously log in to apps and websites. Yup, no names neede

image Jerusalem, Israel: In a significant finding that could ease water woes, an Israeli company has come up with a new and an inexpensive technology that produces drinking water from thin air.

The discovery is seen as a vital step in alleviating the crisis, especially in developing countries such as India, where water scarcity is a major issue.

Water-Gen has developed an Atmospheric Water-Generation Units using its “GENius” heat exchanger to chill air and condense water vapour.

The company claims that by using the technology, a litre of water can be produced for a mere Rs 1.5, as compared to Rs 15 for a litre of bottled water.

image Washington, United States of America: Microsoft was scrambling Sunday to repair a security hole in its widely used Internet Explorer web browser, saying it had detected attempts to exploit the flaw.

The US software giant said that the coding problem affected versions six through 11 of its flagship browser, noting it was aware of "limited, targeted attacks" taking advantage of the newly discovered flaw.

Microsoft says that an attacker who successfully exploits the vulnerability could gain the same user rights as the official user.

"The vulnerability may corrupt memory in a way that could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code in

image Seoul, South Korea: Samsung Electronics Co Ltd said the number of its flagship Galaxy S5 smartphones shipped with non-working cameras was "very limited" and that it has taken measures to ensure the issue does not recur in new shipments.

Reports of the problem surfaced last week and come less than a month after the phone's global launch, with Samsung banking on the S5 to outdo its predecessor and rebuild momentum for the brand in an increasingly competitive market.

The South Korean firm has warned profits are likely to have fallen in January-March from a year earlier, its second straight quarter of decline.

Welcome to the world of "spaser" technology that can make mobile phones so small, efficient, and flexible that these could be printed on clothing.

A team of researchers from Melbourne-based Monash University’s department of electrical and computer systems engineering (ECSE) has modelled the world’s first spaser (surface plasmon amplification by stimulated emission of radiation) to be made completely of carbon.

A spaser is effectively a nanoscale laser or nanolaser.

It emits a beam of light through the vi

When applied to plastic lining, this new material can clean up exhaust gases from power plants much more effectively than existing methods, said the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).

Currently, the techniques industry use to separate out raw materials such as gases, liquids and solids are extremely energy-intensive, accounting for 40 percent of the world's energy use each year.

Xenon is a noble gas. Like other noble gases such as helium and neon, it is mostly chemically inert.

According to Chinese researchers, the mystery where did the gas vanish may finally be resolved: Xenon may chemically react with iron and nickel in earth's core where it is held.

Earth's core, which contains about one-third of the planet's mass, is made of iron and nickel.
