image Dhoni shows who's the boss as Gambhir kicked out for first two Tests against Australia Mahendra Singh Dhoni's grip over Indian cricket just got stronger. The 15-man squad for the first two Tests against Australia was announced on Sunday, and the only man emerging as an alternate power centre to Dhoni in the national side - Gautam Gambhir - was dropped.

The reason that is being given for Gambhir's ouster is bad form, given that he hadn't scored a Test century since January 2010. However, his form in the recent series against England was decent, as he compiled two half-centuries and a pair of 40s.

image After leading India to the pinnacle of Test rankings, in December 2009, the Indian skipper achieved the same in ODIs.

Thanks to the hosts' seven-wicket win which came at the skipper's home town in Ranchi in the third ODI on Saturday, following their 127-run win at Kochi, the world champions are No. 1 in the ODI rankings  with 119 points.

Their current opponents, England, are No. 2 with 118 points.

Even before the series had begun, there was a keen tussle for the No. 1 ranking. India were placed third and England were second behind South Africa.
