image (CNN) -- Ariel Sharon, whose half century as a military and political leader in Israel was marked with victories and controversies, died Saturday after eight years in a coma, Israeli Army Radio reported. Sharon was 85.

Sharon died at Sheba Medical Center in the Tel Aviv suburb of Tel Hashomer.

The Israeli statesman was a national war hero to many Israelis for his leadership, both in uniform or as a civilian, during every Israeli war.

Many in the Arab world called Sharon "the Butcher of Beirut" after he oversaw Israel's 1982 invasion of Lebanon while serving as defense minister.

image (CNN) -- Sixteen tractor-trailers carrying bottled water began to arrive Saturday in West Virginia, where some 300,000 residents of nine counties have been told not to drink their tap water.

The Department of Homeland Security shipped the clean water to distribution centers in and around Charleston, and officials said residents could begin stocking up early Saturday at 16 locations.

But they offered no timeline for when calmer, cleaner waters would prevail.

"We're just not sure exactly how long it's going to take before it's acceptable to lift the do-not-drink ban," Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin told CNN on Friday night. He described

image (Reuters) - The U.S. State Department warned Americans on Friday of the potential for terrorism at the Sochi Olympics but said it was not aware of any specific threat to U.S. citizens.

In a "travel warning," the department urged Americans to be vigilant about personal security at the February 7 to March 14 Olympic Games, and flagged the possibility of petty crime, inadequate medical care and hotel shortages.

It also highlighted a Russian law, much criticized by rights groups, that would make it a crime to publicly promote the equality of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

Khobragade was granted the immunity on January 8 under the India-US Headquarters agreement.

image New Delhi, Jan 4 : Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said Saturday he would not contest the April-May Lok Sabha elections.

"I am not contesting the Lok Sabha elections," Kejriwal told mediapersons.

The rresponse came after a senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Yogendra Yadav, earlier in the day said he wanted to see Kejriwal as the prime minister of the country.

Kejriwal said Yadav's statement was out of love for him.

The AAP Saturday announced it would attempt to contest as many seats as possible for the general elections this year, and a final list of candidates would be released by Feb 15.(IANS)

"We are working with a serious purpose and a commitment to trying to resolve this conflict that has been going on for many years... We are not there yet, but we are making progress," Xinhua quoted Kerry as saying at a press conference in Ramallah following his second meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in less than 24 hours.

image Washington, Jan 2 : Hacking group, Syrian Electronic Army (SEA), reportedly posted messages on Microsoft-owned video-chat service Skype's blog and its social media accounts, warning it to stop spying on people.

The SEA posted the anti-surveillance message on Skype's Twitter account and later on its blog.

New Delhi, Jan 1 : The Indian Government on Wednesday cancelled the Rs. 3600 crore AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal, television channel reports and other media quoted unnmaed defence ministry sources, as saying. The deal involved the purchase of twelve helicopters to transport top politicians across the country.

The deal for the purchase of AW101 helicopters hit a block in February 2013 after the then-chief executive of the Italian firm Finmeccanica was arrested by his country's police for allegedly paying bribes to secure the deal, prompting the Indian Government to freeze payments.

image Washington, Dec 23 : Indian-origin Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal will run for president in 2016, Senator David Vitter has said.

Vitter said Jindal (Republican) was already laying the groundwork to pursue 2016 GOP nomination for president.

Vitter however did not say whether he would support his home-state governor in what is certain to be a brutal Republican primary season.

image Washington:  Newly declassified documents show that former CIA Director Leon Panetta revealed secret information to "Zero Dark Thirty" scriptwriter Mark Boal, who was allowed to attend Panetta's speech at CIA headquarters marking the raid that killed Osama bin Laden.

Judicial Watch filed a request for the more than 200 pages of documents, which the CIA released Tuesday. The documents concerned the internal investigation of its role in the film about the bin Laden raid.

image Kabul:  A large explosion shook Kabul's international airport on Wednesday, a Reuters witness said, with police saying initial reports suggested it was an insurgent attack.

"Based on our information there was a explosion near KAIA," said deputy Kabul police chief Sayed Ghafar Sayedzada, referring to Kabul International Airport.
